On the whole I found the thing rather pedestrian. Partly due, no doubt, to the fact that the plot basically follows two characters while in comparison, Parties has a much larger scope. The sheer size of the story related through Parties allows Gibson to do something I've never seen before (though I probably just don't read enough) - he changes his writing style from chapter to chapter depending on which character the story is following. It will be at times dense, overflowing with information almost to the point of train of thought and other times be slow, methodical, and deliberate. This works wonderfully to embed each character securely in your mind as an individual.
So to sum up: Virtual Light - good. All Tomorrow's Parties - unmistakably the more recent work.

So now I can easily play MP3s through my stereo. For now I'm just running output from the laptop via RCA cables but a dedicated MP3 player would be sweet. The Squeezebox is at the top of my short list.
